If you want to help patients who have been incapacitated or have some other mobility issues but you are not yet ready to pursue a graduate school degree; you may consider taking a physical therapy assistant programs first.
A physical therapist assistant works with the supervision of a physical therapist to provide hands on and practical help to patients whose movements are impaired, disabled children and or injured athletes.
Course Requirement for Physical Therapy Assistant Programs
The physical therapy assistant programs involve a 2 year associate’s degree in physical therapy and some states also require assistants to be registered, certified, or licensed. Completing the program will often lead to a rewarding salary as reported on Payscale.
Although this program only need an associate’s degree to be able to practice the profession, the curriculum of the programs are bombarded with subjects on sciences.
Physical therapy assistant education programs are designed with a basic training in chemistry, biology and clinical instructions.
Most physical therapy assistant programs require applicants to have good grades in science subjects in high school such as biology and chemistry.
You also need to have decent grades in Algebra, the physical therapy assistant programs requires students to have at least a C grade in this subject. Earning good grades can also help in entering to your preferred school.
But you have to bear in mind that taking physical therapy assistant programs does not make you eligible for becoming a physical therapist. In order to become a Physical therapist one should have at least as Master’s degree.

Physical Therapy Assistant Programs: Training Requirements
The physical therapy assistant programs will prepare you to work on helping patients with their assigned physical exercises as well as therapeutic treatments which includes massaging, putting cold and hot packs and bathing. It also includes recording the patient’s progress and relay the report finding to the physical therapist.
Through physical therapy assistant programs students are trained to be able to relay clear communication, become more patience and have strong personality. The physical therapist assistant work can be emotionally and physically demanding, and more often they are required to give instructions to their patient.
It will also be better if physical assistants are having a regular gym workout. You need to be physically fit and in good shape. The work requires you to lift patient and or standing up for long hours more so if you are monitoring the patient’s progress during treatment and exercise.
If you want to have a full grasp on the career you may also try having a volunteering experience in a health care facility or in a hospital; this help you to assess yourself if this is really the career path you want to pursue.
